The Red soils, as its name implies, are those soils where large amounts of clay are presented, but in turn, contain clay and sand in smaller proportions than clay. In this type of soil large particles of clay are found, making it a soil with high water retention, forming small lagoons. This is why its color is somewhat reddish.

The Red soil is ideal for certain agricultural work. If this is mixed with humus, it will be completely suitable for such work. On many occasions this soil is considered a very heavy soil, this is due to the properties that clay possesses, and that when it comes into contact with water it tends to form a kind of clay-based mud, thus remaining very dense and heavy.

The types of crops that grow in Red soils :

  • Plants of the brassica family, such as broccoli, cauliflower, or cabbage, do well in this type of soil.
  • Fruit trees, such as apple, pear, hazelnut, laurel, cherry, custard apple, quince, and currant.
  • Sunflowers are other plants that grow easily in clay soils.
